"Our founders started PAB'S PACKS out of their own experiences of hospitalization with chronic illness: Type 1 Diabetes and Hodgkins Lymphoma, Stage 2A. While hospitalized, both girls experienced the care gap that exists for a sick teenager: that of the many activities and donated items available to patients, most are not designed for older children. The girls created PAB'S PACKS to fill this gap. Every item in our custom backpacks has been selected to provide comfort and encouragement to chronically ill teens with adolescent development (ages 10-19) in mind.
Over the last three years, PAB'S PACKS has donated over 2,100 packs through partnerships with children's hospitals and specialized summer camps. Every pack is made possible through the generous support of our donors and corporate sponsors and we are constantly looking or teen-forward organizations and businesses to join us in our pursuit of connecting, comforting and encouraging sick teens.
“PAB” is for Pia and Abbie; that’s us. We are lifelong friends. One of the things we share is knowing what it’s like to be in the hospital feeling lousy and scared. Abbie was diagnosed at age 13 in 2013 with Type 1 diabetes. Pia received her diagnosis in 2014 at the age of 14: Stage 2A Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Thanks to the wonderful care we received at Children’s Hospitals Pia is cancer free and Abbie has her diabetes under control.
With a lot of help from our families we started PAB’S PACKS in 2014 because we wanted to help kids who are going through long days in the hospital.
